Holiday Season A Christmas suffused with Piaget magic

At the Manufacture #piaget in La Côte-aux-Fées at the heart of the Swiss Jura region, preparations for Christmas have been in full swing for many months. The workshops are humming with happiness, fired by a passionate desire to create fascinating watch and jewellery models that will light up the festive season.

Bringing joy to a loved one with whom we share special moments of our lives or a common passion is exactly what Georges-Edouard #piaget did in 1880 by creating the most beautiful of gifts as a token of love for his much cherished Emma Bünzli. #piaget has faithfully treasured the memory of this wonderful story.

Not far from the Manufacture, the frozen pond overlooked by snow-capped mountains is a lasting reminder of the love story enacted there almost two centuries ago and which has continued to inspire Piaget’s tireless quest for harmony.

An inventive young watchmaker, Georges-Edouard #piaget, had recently settled in the area. One evening, shortly before Christmas, a period when orders were pouring in for end-of-year gifts, he nonetheless allowed himself a short break to go ice-skating with his future wife, Emma Bünzli, and a few friends. As night fell gently, the pair took advantage of this special moment to exchange smiles and knowing looks, surrounded by unspoilt nature and a romantic starlit sky.

Filled with an overwhelming desire to give Emma the most beautiful possible Christmas present, Georges-Edouard began working day and night at the workbench in complete secrecy. The result was an elegant fob watch with a protective cover. Emma was also a watchmaker, and who better than her could admire all the love and care lavished upon this precious object?

Impatient to present the gift to his beloved, Georges-Edouard nonetheless had to wait till Christmas Eve. Surrounded by their families, the young lovers took advantage of the exchange of gifts after the meal to slip away on their own. The watchmaker handed over his daintily wrapped treasure. Deeply moved by this gesture, the young woman accepted the watch that was to seal their enduring love. From that moment onwards, she would never be parted from it, wearing it around her neck or tenderly cradling it in the palm of her hand like a talisman.

Georges-Edouard and Emma were married four months later in April 1881, and went on to have 14 children.

Ever since this beautiful gift of love, #piaget has consistently created fabulous watch and jewellery creations that mark unforgettable moments and remain as dazzling as ever across the years. Each #piaget creation becomes a timeless gift embodying enduring emotions. To honour this tradition, the Manufacture is once again reinventing Christmas.
